Fiesta Señor in Leicester UK
"May Christ inflame our hearts to joyfully share His love for us in practical and charitable ways to our brothers and sisters in need!"
BACKGROUNDER:
Typhoon Haiyan, called typhoon "Yolanda" in the Philippines, caused catastrophic damage throughout much of Leyte islands, where cities and towns were largely destroyed. As of 6:00 a.m. local time on January 14 [2014], the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed 6,201 fatalities across the country, 5,803 of those taking place in the Eastern Visayas. The actual death toll remains unclear, with the total loss of life estimated as low as 2,500 by PresidentBenigno Aquino III. As of November 13, Red Cross estimated that 22,000 people were missing while approximately 65,500 people were listed as such through Google Person Finder. [...]

Fiesta Señor 2014: for Caritas Damayan
After all our efforts to respond quickly to the very crucial and very urgent short-term relief needs of our suffering fellow men and women victimised by the typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda come their more important and bigger long-term rehabilitation needs (rebuilding their lives: homes, livelihood, communities, etc.); especially the most needy who have no where to turn to but to the generous sharing of our resources ('universal destination' of God's blessings -- for all & not only to the few priviledged ones).
We should not abandon them in their more important and bigger long-term needs!
Let us recall the ancient wisdomful saying that goes somewhat like this:
"Feeding a hungry man with a fish will make him live for a day; but teaching a man how to fish will make him live for the rest of his life."
Caritas Damayan is the disaster reponse project of Caritas Manila -- affiliated with Caritas Internationalis, a CAFOD partner, and affiliated with 'Caritas Philippines' NASSA (National Secretariat for Social Action - Justice & Peace). The 2nd phase of this project, which is rehabilitation, is now on the way called the 'Bricks-for-Hope' which a global fundraising campaign for the Philippines in response to the typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda disaster. (more information at: Bricks for Hope website)
Santo Niño Leicester supports this fundraising campaign. We celebrate our yearly Fiesta Señor in honour of Santo Niño de Cebu for this particular charitable cause. Our 4th objective of the celebrations expresses this: "To celebrate with a particular charitable cause: rehabilitation aid appeal for the Philippine typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) victims." (cf. our Fiesta Señor page and our Fiesta Señor 2014 Facebook event page).
"All net proceeds of Fiesta Señor 2014 celebrations is for the benefit of the Philippine typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda victims (via Caritas Manila)."
A motivational reflection:
This is our assurance that we will be rewarded not as the world rewards:
Helping the 'least ones' by 'feeding them when hungry', 'giving them drink when thirsty', 'welcoming them when strangers', 'clothing them when naked', 'caring for them when sick, 'visiting them when in prison', ... ministering to their needs (cf. Mt 25:31-46), without 'blowing a trumpet for people to see', will be rewarded by the Father who sees 'in secret' (cf. Mt 6:1-4).
The many 'nameless & faceless' most needy people (because we will not know who they are), who will never be able to repay their many 'nameless & faceless' donors (because of their anonymity), can only raise their thankful prayers to the Divine Providence who will surely bestow His bountiful blessings to all those who likewise bless others 'in secret'!
This is an opportunity for us to help the poorest of the poor who have a few or no relatives and friends to help them; they rely solely on charitable humanitarian aid.
